Costa Rica qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2014
World Cup in Brazil for the first time in its history after beating Greece 5-4
on penalties in the game that brought them together on the playground Arena
Pernambuco and ended its overtime in a 1-1 draw.
Costa Rica advanced by Bryan Ruiz in the minute 52 from a
shoot outside the penalty area, Greece equalized the result in stoppage time
through Socrates Papastathopoulos, who followed the ball into the net while goalkeeper
Costa Rica Keylor Navas threw it away, ending the original time tied 1-1.
The game did not live up to the expected level as one of the

resolved the confrontation in the final moments .
