Diego Simeone Biography

His full name is Diego Pablo Simeone is an Argentine former football player and Current football manager of Atletico Madrid; he was born in Buenos Aires in April 28, 1970.

He played as Defensive midfielder and one of the best midfielder players in Argentine players during that time.

Simeone was called Cholo as his nickname by his youth coach Victorio Spinetto who named him when he was 14 years old according to his energetic play which was similar to the former Boca Junior player Carmelo Simeone who has the same nickname.

Simeone played for many teams starting of his playing career with many teams which are Velez Sarsfield, Pisa, Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, Internazionale, Lazio, and Racing.

Club Career of Diego Simeone

His first European Club was Pisa where he started to play in 1990 and spent most of his career in, the manager Mircea Lucescu brought him to the team. Then he moved to Seville and after that to Atletico Madrid where they won the title of the La Liga and Copa del Ray in 1996, and Simeone was part in club’s successes according to his spells, but he returned to Italy in order to play again in the Serie A with Internazionale in 1997, he stayed there for two seasons, won with them the UEFA Cup in 1988.

He moved after that to Lazio in 1999, where food empire Cirio bankrolled the team under the management of Seven-Goran Eriksson, he joined the team which contained Nestor Sensini, Matias Almeyda, Hernan Crespo, and Juan Sebastian Veron. He won with them two titles adding to the two titles during his playing in Spain. He has played with Lazio for 3 years.

In 2003 he returned to Atletico Madrid where he played for 2 seasons, to move finally to Argentine leaving Europe and go to Racing.

International Career of Diego Simeone

Simeone won the title of Copa America with Argentine in 1991 and 1993; also he participated with Argentine in the World Cup in the year 1994, 1998, and 2002. Simeone was part of the team which won the silver medal during the Summer Olympics in 1996 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Simeone scored 11 goals during his playing as midfielder with his country including one goal in the confederation Cup in 1992.

Managerial Career of Diego Simeone

Diego Simeone as we mentioned before was his last station racing where his last game was on February 17, 2006. He returned to coach racing in June 2011 by replacing Miguel Angel Russo, and in the end he signed in December 23, 2011 with the Spanish Team Atletico Madrid, though he led his team to win UEFA Europa League defeating Atletico Bilbao 3-0.

Then he led them to win UEFA Super Cup by beating Chelsea 4-1. Then in the next Year he won the Copa Del Ray beating Real Madrid 2-1 under the leader of Jose Mourinho.
