Jorge Jesus Biography




Jorge Fernando Pinheiro de Jesus was a former football player where he played as a right midfielder and current football manager of S.L. Benfica. He was born in July 24, 1954.

Jorge Jesus playing career:

The father of Jorge was Jesus Virgolino who was a Sporting Clube de Portugal player in 1940s.  Jorge Jesus started his playing career with Sporting team in 1975-1976. He retired at the age of 35 in 1989 to start new career in the world of football.

Managerial career of Jorge Jesus:

Early years:
Jorge Jesus started his new career as manager of Amora Fc, to move then to F.C. Felgueirras in 1993, he helped the team to promote to the top of the league in his second season, so he stayed there until 1998.
Jorge Jesus moved to Moreirense FC who led them to finish the league in the 5th place so they entered the EUFA Cup for the next year and he could also making them to reach the final of the Portuguese Cup but they lost in front of Sporting 1-0. Then he moved to Sporting Clube de Braga to lead them to the 5th place in the league and the round 16 in the UEFA Cup.

Benfica:
Jorge Jesus signed with Benfica in June 16, 2009 so from his first season he could to lead the Reds to the first division title after 5 years of waiting, then they reached the quarter final of the EUFA Cup but they lost in front of Liverpool 5-3. He could to get the domestic League Cup. In December 10, 2012 he became the most successful coach in Portugal after his win by seven games of nine derby games.
Then they reached to the final of the EUFA Cup but they lost in front of Chelsea 2-1 in 2013. So Jorge Jesus was rewarded by renewing his contract for two years further.
