Gerardo Martino Bio




Gerardo Daniel Martino Tata is a former Argentina football player and current Coach was born in Rosario, November 20, 1962. And in July 23, 2013 he signed with Fc Barcelona to be his Coach.



His Career as Player














He played on bench as midfielder , where he spent most of his football career as player in Newell’s Old Boys team , which won with it the Championship in the year 1987/1988, 1990/1991 , and then in 1991/1992. He is the most players who played games with his team with a set of 505 games, and in 2003 was named Soccer highlights of the club history according to his history in recording goals for his team.
So He debuted in 1980 and played with his team until 1995 although he played in 1991 and 1994 briefly at CD Tenerife and Lanus.
In 1996 he moved to Deportivo O’Higgins Club in Chile, and in the same year moved to continue his career at Barcelona SC in Ecuador.
Also he played in the national team of Argentine in the second chances.



His career as a coach

Gerardo Martino began his career as coach in the year 1998, by training Brown Reefs, and also he has developed his career in Argentine and Paraguay, by talking the advantage of coaching CA Platense in 1999, then Institute in the year 200/2001, after that Liberated Club in the year 2002/2003, Cerro Porteno in 2004, Colon de Santa Fe in 2005, and then returned back to Liberated in the year 2005/2006.
So through his good results in Argentine, he began his career in Paraguay, by winning four championships, three titles with Liberated and one with Cerro Porteno. This thing raised his name to be the coach of Paraguay team in 2007, in this year he honored as the Best South American coach of the year.
Gerardo Martino led trained Paraguay team in a total of 742 games, where Paraguay reached to the qualification of the World Cup in South Africa 2010. There he earned his best historical classification, but he lost in front of Spain in the Quarterfinals by a result 1-0.
After that in 2011 Paraguay reached to the final in Copa America, where they lost the game in front of Uruguay 3-0, though he left Paraguay after this tournament.
In 2012 he took the coaching of Newell’s Old Boys, where the team was so weak to the extent that he was threatened by the decline. But in the next year 2013 he reached with the team to win the title of Torneo and semifinal of the Copa Liberatores, which lost in front of Atletico Minerio. He lost in the final of Champion of Torneo Initial in front of Velez Sarsfield on June 29, 2013 with 1-0.
In July 22, 2013, the board of Barcelona football club signed with him to be the coach for two years.
He arrived this year to Barcelona and started his good results through friendly matches of Barcelona and today the team achieved his big win in the first day of La Liga in front of Levante by 7-0 goals.
Martino is considered the fourth Argentina Coach in the history of Barcelona after Helenio Herrera, Roquue Olsen, and Cesar Luis Menotti.
