Andre Villas-Boas Biography



His name is related to the Portuguese naming customs. His first name is Carbal and his second name is Villas-Boas which is the name of his family.
 Luis Andre de Pina Carbal e Villas-Boas is Portuguese football coach his name is commonly referred as AVB, he was born in October 17, 1977. Villas-Boas is the current football manager of the English Tottenham Hotspur. Villas-Boas coached Academica for eight months, and then he moved to Porto to be his manager for one year, after that he moved to Chelsea where he spent nine months as manager of Chelsea to move then to Tottenham Hotspur.  
While he was being a manager of Porto, he led them to achieve the title of Primera Liga in the year 2010-2011, and then he becomes the youngest coach who wins the European title.
Villas-Boas has no experience in the field of playing football, although he is a manager at the top level.
Villas-Boas was born in Porto, Portugal, he speak English fluently since his childhood. When he became 16 years old he discovered that he was living beside Sir Bobby Robson the former manager of Porto, where he appointed Villas-Boas to Porto’s observation department.
Villas-Boas was arranged by Robson in order to obtain the FA coaching qualification, where he got UEFA C coaching license in Scotland , then B License , and after that he got the A license and UEFA Pro License under the tutelage of Jim Fleeting.
In 1998 He became a short stint as head manager of the British Virgin Islands National team under the age 21, and then he moved to be the assistant coach at Porto under Jose Mourinho.
He followed Mourinho when the later moved between Chelsea and Internazionale. 



Managerial Career

Academica de Coimbra:



Villas-Boas at the start of the season of 2009-10 he left Mourinho’s team to qualify himself to be a football coach, where he found a job with Academica de Coimbra in the Primera Liga, to fill the vacancy of his successor Rogerio Goncalves.
Villas-Boas applied to his new career as manager of Academica when the team was in the bottom of the League and without any wins , but Villas-Boas started to change the team luck by adding his new style , pushing them to raise to the 11th position in the league , away by ten point from the regelation zone.
On the other hand, he led them in the same season to reach to the semi-finals of the Portuguese League Cup, but they lost in front of Porto at the Estadio de Dragoa and by a goal from Mariano Gonzalez.
The attractive football displayed by the team, and solid results led the press and media to make intense speculation by linking him to fill the vacant position in FC Porto or Sporting during the summer of 2010.



FC Porto: 



In June 2, 2010, Villas-Boas moved to Porto to sign a contract to be the new coach for the team for two years, so after two month of his signing he won the first trophy when Porto beat Benfica and got the title of the Portuguese Super cup. Then he led them to win the undefeated season in the Primera League by more than 20 points. He did not stop at that success but he continued to lead them to win the title of the Portuguese Cup and the UEFA Europe League.






Chelsea:


Chelsea signed with him a contract for 3 years to be his head Coach at June 22, 2011, by paying 15 million to Villas-Boas in order to active his release Clause from Porto’s Contract.
So on July 30, 2011 he led his new team to win 2011 Barclays Asia Trophy during pre-season. So Chelsea won all his pre-season games under the leader of Villa-Boas.
By the starting of the primer League,  Chelsea ended  the game in front of Stoke City by a 0-0 draw, where Villas commented on the strong defense of Stoke in their home. After that in August 20, he led his team to win over West Bromwich Albion with 2-1 result. He continued to win by beating Norwich City 3-1 . but in September 18, 2011, his team lost in front of Manchester United by 3-1 at Old Trafford. They lost their second derby by a result 5-3 in front of Arsenal. Then after three week , he lost again in front of Liverpool by a result 2-1. And then by the same team , he lost again but in the League Cup by 2-0 in the quarter final.
Villas-Boas stared to receive pressures on February 11, 2012  , when Chelsea dropped out of the top Four of the Primer League by a defeat against Everton  2-0.
Then they lost in front of Napoli by 3-1 during UEFA Champions League and on March 14, 2012 he lost in front of West Bromwich Albion , to be in the 5th position lifting Arsenal in the 4th one, so after that Villas-Boas was relieved  of his managerial duties by Chelsea to give the leading to his assistant Roberto di Matteo.



Tottenham Hotspur:



On July 3, 2012 he signed with Tottenham a contract for three years after a successful talks with the administration of the club. He was being a successor of Harry Kidknapp.
Villas led Tottenham to win at Old Trafford over Manchester United by 2-3. He led Tottenham to the last 16 of the Europe League. So in the end of the season he led his team to the fifth position which Tottenham sat a one point from his rival Arsenal in order to enter the Champions League but they failed in that.
Villas-Boas was approached from PSG and Real Madrid , but he refused their offer and preferred to stay with Tottenham.




His Personal Life:





Villas-Boas married to Joana Maria Noronha de Ornelas Teixeria ,  they have two daughters , Benedita whom was born in August 2009 and Carolina was born in October 2010. As we said before , Villas speaks fluent English, he taught from his grandmother Margaret Kendell, her mother moved from Cheadle, Cheshire , England to Portugal in order to start a wine business. Her brother was a commander in the RAF during the World War II.
