Oscar Washington Tabarez




Oscar Washington Tabarez Sclavo was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, March 3, 1947. Is a teacher by profession, a former player and current coach of the Uruguayan football? As a player played in five Uruguayan teams all of them in the Second Division and one in Mexico. As coach, he coached ten teams in five different countries, in addition coaching twice the Uruguayan U-20 team and also the senior team.
Biography of Oscar Tabarez
He worked as a teacher in the schools of the Hill, Paso de la Arena and La Teja, combining for several years, his passion was for football with teaching. As a player, he served in the positions of center back and right side between 1967 and 1978. He began his coaching career in 1980 in the lower divisions of Bella Vista. In 1987, Tabarez led Peñarol to win the champions of the Copa Libertadores.
Oscar Tabarez became the Coach of the Uruguay national football team during the World Cup South Africa 2010, where Uruguay reached fourth place with an outstanding performance. He also led the Uruguayan national team in the 1990 World Cup held in Italy, reaching the second round and losing against the hosts.
In 2010, due to the significant participation of the Uruguayan national team in the World Cup in South Africa, Tabarez was nominated, with ten other coaches, a Coach of the Year at the FIFA and received the award for best coach of the season, presented by Fox Sports. In 2011, the teacher gets to the fifteenth Copa America Uruguay for his country, for the edition in Argentina. It stands also for directing three of the biggest clubs in the history of international football: Peñarol, Boca Juniors and Milan.
