Mark Hughes Biography



Leslie Mark Hughes is a Welsh former international football player and current manage of Stoke City football team; he was born in November 1, 1963. Hughes appeared in 72 appearances and scored 16 goals in his playing career.  Hughes played in many famous teams like Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Everton, Southampton, and ended his career in Blackburn Rovers to retire in 2002. During his playing, Hughes won a lot of medals titles, two European Cup winners’ Cups; three league cups, four FA Cups and two Primer League Cups.
He won the PFA player’s Player of the year two times in 1989 and 1991. He started in management to manage Wales and signed a contract in 1999, Hughes continued as manager of Wales until 2004, so he failed in leading the team to qualify for the World Cup or the European Championship.
Hughes moved to train Blackburn Rovers, where he stayed there for years, and in the 2005-2006 seasons, Hughes led the team to the 6th place in the primer league. Then he moved to Manchester City to stay there for year and a half in June 2008. Hughes then signed with Fulham during the season 2010-2011.
Hughes joined Queens Park Rangers helping them to retain in the Primer League in 2011-2012. Mark Hughes was sacked by Rangers according to the poor results of the team in November 23, 2012. Finally he signed with Stoke City on May 30, 2013.

Playing career of Mark Hughes:

Manchester United:

He started playing with Manchester United in 1980, and stayed there until 1986. In the season 1985-1986, scores 17 goals which remained the highest goals in a season during his career.

Barcelona:

Mark Hughes in the summer of 1986 was sold for £2 million to Barcelona. Hughes was a disappointment in his lonely season with Barcelona.

Bayern Munich:

For his disappointment performance in Barcelona, the team loaned him to Bayern Munich for the season 1987-1988. Mark Hughes regained his form in Bayern .

Manchester United:

Alex Ferguson managed to restore Hughes again, so in May 1988 Manchester United brought Hughes for £1.8 million. He played 7 years in the team to move to Chelsea.

Chelsea:

Hughes moved to Chelsea and he played there for 3 years, he could to show his performance and he played there as the key player in his games. He stayed there from 1995 until 1998.

Southampton:

Mark Hughes moved to Southampton in July 1998, Mark helped his new team to retain in the Primer League status.

Everton:

He moved to Everton because the new manager of Southampton Glenn Hoddle was not managing to put Hughes in his plans, so he played 16 games during the full season scoring just one goal against Watford.

Blackburn Rovers:

He moved to Blackburn playing a key role in promoting the team from Division one in 2001. So he was the oldest player in the Primer league to score in Leicester City.

Wales International career:

In 1984 he scored goal against England leading his team to win. SO Mark Hughes played 72 matches and scored 16 goals through.

Managerial career:

Wales:

Mark Hughes started in his new career as manager of Wales’s national team in 1999. So he led his team to qualify for Euro 2004. But the team denied in front of Russia in the playoffs.

Blackburn Rovers:

Mark Hughes took the charge of Blackburn Rovers in September 2004. He succeeded in keeping Blackburn of relegation from the Primer League, and pushed his team also to reach to the semi-final of the FA Cup for the first time during 40 years.
In the next season, he pushed his team to the 6th place of the primer league and so the team qualified for the UEFA Cup for the next year.
In the next year the team reached to the round of 32 of the UEFA Cup but they knocked out by Bayern Leverkusen. In the FA Cup they reached to the semi-final and faced Chelsea to lose the game. Mark Hughes in the same year he won the Primer League Manager of the Month for October 2007. Blackburn finished the Primer League in the 7th place.
Mark Hughes stayed in Blackburn from 2004 until 2008.

Manchester City:

Mark Hughes moved to Manchester City on June 4, 2008, and he signed a contract for three years. The Abu Dhabi United investment group bought Manchester City club in 2008 and provided Hughes with large amounts of transfer funds. The team brought Robinho from Real Madrid, Wayne Bridge from Chelsea, and other famous players. But the team finished the season in the 10th place of the Primer League and the quarter-final of the UEFA Cup.
In the 2009 season Hughes brought new players like, Gareth Barry, Roque Cruz, Emmanuel Adebayor, Kolo Toure, and other players.
Hughes was sacked on December 19, 2009 according to his poor results in leading the team to a serious title.

Fulham:

Mark Hughes signed with Fulham to be successor of Roy Hodgson who moved to Liverpool. So in the end of the 2010-2011 seasons Mark Hughes led Fulham to reach the 8th place in the Primer league and qualify for the UEFA Cup.
But he left the team and resigned as manager of the team on June 2, 2011.

Queens Park Rangers:

Mark Hughes signed then a contract with Queens Park Rangers for two and half year. He signed with many players but without any good result, so he was sacked by the team in November 2012.

Stoke City:

Hughes signed with Stoke City on May 30, 2013 a contract for three years.

Personal Life of Mark Hughes:

Mark Hughes is well famous for his nick name Sparky which is taken from the comic of the same name. Hughes has two sons and daughter their names are: Alex, Curtis, and Xenna. He has autobiography which wrote it in 1990 and named: Sparky-Barcelona, Bayern and back.
