David Moyes Biography




His full name is David William Moyes; Moyes was born in April 25, 1963. He is a Scottish former football player and current manager of Manchester United since July 2013 after the retiring of Sir Alex Ferguson from training.
Moyes was the manager of Everton, where he was the League Managers Association Managers of the Year 2003, 2005, and 2009. David Moyes is a member in the committee for the League Managers Association in an executive capacity.
Moyes was playing as Center-half and he made 540 games during his playing career with Celtic, Moyes with Celtic crowned with the championship medal.
The team which Moyes played in is: Cambridge United, Bristol City, Shrewsbury Town, and Dunfermline Athletic, and he ended his career as player in Preston North End.
Moyes started his coaching career through Preston team when he became the assistant of the coach, and then he took the position of manager in 1998. Then he moved to Everton in 2002 to lead them qualifying for the Champions League and reaching the FA Cup final in 2009.
Moyes received praises from many coaches like Alex Ferguson, Arsène Wenger, and Kenny Dalglish for his achievements at Everton.
He was promoted to be successor of Alex Ferguson in Manchester United according to the praises of the later to give him the management of Manchester United. So he signed with Manchester United a contract for six years on July 1, 2013.

Playing career of David Moyes

David Moyes started playing at the youth team of IBV Vestmannaeyjar in 1978 a half season. He played as center-half with many teams like Celtic, where Moyes won a championship medal and appeared in 24 league games.
When he was playing with Cambridge United, he received abuse for his religious belief from his team-mate Roy McDonough, where he was practicing Christian.
So David Moyes appeared over 550 League appearances in his career to become then a coach at Preston, he seek to show his way and his style to become them the manager of the team in 1998.

International career

He was the captain of Scotland team at the age U18, where he played under the management Andy Roxburgh in 1980.

Managerial Career of David Moyes

Preston North End:

Moyes became the manager of Preston in January 1998, by replacing Gary Peters, where the club was in danger of relegation and struggled in division Two. Moyes worked on his style and way of playing and to improve the techniques and tactics of the team. So he led them to avoid relegation at the end of the season in the year 1997-1998, and to reach to the Division Two playoff where they failed to win.
In the next season, he led them to the Division Two titles and then a promotion to Division One.

Everton:

2002-2004
Moyes signed with Everton in March 14, 2002. He declared through his unveiling press conference, that Everton was the club of people on Merseyside.
Moyes said: "I am from a city (Glasgow) that is not unlike Liverpool. I am joining the people's football club. The majority of people you meet on the street are Everton fans. It is a fantastic opportunity, something you dream about. I said 'yes' right away as it is such a big club."
Moyes led his team to finish in the 7th position in the primer league, and Moyes was awarded LMA Manager of the Year for first time in his coaching career, then he got in November 2002 the Primer League Manager of the Month, by leading his team to have a seat in the Champions League.
In the 2003-2004 the results of the team were very poor and they finished the league in the 17th position with 39 points, it was the lowest result in the history of the team.
2004-2009
Everton finished fourth in the league to surpass all expectations and securing a seat in the next year in the Champions league, so he awarded the LMA manger of the year again.
In the 2005-2006 seasons they were fighting in order not to relegate, but he led them to climb from the bottom to the 11th position in the league helping them from relegation.
In 2006-2007 seasons they lost the game in front of Blackburn Rovers with 4-1 in the FA Cup, so their record in this champion did not improve. But Everton could to book a place in the UEFA Cup for the next year when they finished the league in the 6th position.
2007-2008 seasons, Everton finished the league in the 5th position and then Moyes led them to reach to the semi-final of the Football League Cup in addition to the last 16 of the UEFA Cup.
In 2008-2009 Moyes appointed Steve Round to be his assistant manager to replace Alan Irvine. So in this season Moyes led his team to FA semi-final by beating Manchester united after Penalty Shootout, and then to reach the final but they lost the game in front of Chelsea by 2-1.
2009-2013
In 2009-2010 season Moyes took charge of 600th game as manager and he was awarded as the manager of the month in January 2010 after three wins and a draw.
He led Everton to finish the league in the 8th position, so they failed to qualify for the Europe in the first time during 4 years.

But in January 2012 Moyes became the fourth manager in the history of Manchester United as successor of Sir Alex Ferguson who announced his retiring from training, so Moyes informed the administration of Everton that he will leave to Manchester United.


Manchester United:

Manchester United announced that Moyes the management of the team to be successor of Alex Ferguson, so Moyes signed with the Team a contract for six years. He took his first win with his new team over Wigan Athletic with a 2-0 in the FA Community Shield.

Personal Life of David Moyes

Mayes’s father name was David SR, and he was a coach of Drum chapel Amateurs, where Moyes started his career in playing football. David Moyes has daughter and son. So Moyes mother was working in clothes store and her name is Joan.
Moyes was supporting Rangers despite he played for Celtic the rival team of the first one.

His Honours:

As player he got many of Honours with the teams in which he played with:
Celtic: he got the Scottish League Primer Division in 1981-1982.
Bristol City: he won the Associate Member’s Cup in 1986.
Preston North End: he won the Football League Third Division 1995-1996.
And then as manager he got also a lot of wins with his teams
Preston North End: he won the Football League Second Division in 1999-2000.
Manchester United: He started his season to win the FA Community Shield in 2013.
Personally he got many awards during his training career
LMA Manager of the year for 2002-2003, 2004-2005, and 2008-2009.
Primer League Manager of the Month for November 2002, September 2004, January 2006, February 2008, February 2009, January 2010, March 2010, October 2010, September 2012, and March 2013.
